Does your relationship with a partner affect your child?
Yes, it does.
By observing your behavior, children learn what closeness is, what love and relationship are, what respect between people looks like, and how family life looks like.
My observations show that children who have supportive parents have fewer behavior problems.
This is also confirmed by the studies of Goldberg, J. S., & Carlson, M. J. (2014). Parents ’relationship quality and children’s behavior in stable married and cohabiting families. Journal of Marriage and the Family, 76, 762–777.
Children pay particular attention to how parents talk to each other, how they address each other, how they spend time together, how they help each other, show love for each other. Based on their parents' behavior, they draw conclusions and act very similarly.
What to do when your relationship is in crisis?
Talk, be honest, ask a couple's therapist for help. After all, your family is not only a child and each of you separately, but also you as a couple.
